The man walked barefoot on the wet sand . He knew not where he came from or where he was going. The beach seemed endless and stretched to infinity on either side. He vaguely remembered the last thing he saw. It was all water around him, he could not breathe and then the water entered his lungs.
He had died.
The white beach sand gleamed in the sun. Far ahead, breaking the hot afternoon haze, he saw a person approaching him. This person was older than him, wore a flowery shirt, shorts, a hat, glasses and carried a suitcase. He came walking wearing a pleasant smile as if he were familiar. As the older person drew near, there was a white badge pinned on his shirt, on which the man read what was written in capital letters "GOD".
God spoke ; "Come son, its time to go !"
The man responded " Now? so soon? I had a lot of plans."
God smiled and said "I'm sorry but it's time to go."
The man noticed the suitcase and asked "What do you have in that suitcase?"
God said "Your belongings."
The man quite taken aback, slowly asked " You mean my things meaning, clothes and money" "
God smiles and said " Those things were never yours, they belong to the earth."
The man again asked " Is it my memories?"
God answered " They don't belong to you , they belonged to time."
The man asked again "My talents?"
God said " They belonged to circumstances "
The man questioned further. "My friends.... my family ?"
God answered very quickly "They belonged to the path"
Then he looked down for a while and then he said in a low tone " My wife and daughter?".
God replied " They belonged to your heart"
Again the man asked "It is my body?" - And God replied " It belongs to the dust now"
The man finally asked "My soul?" - God paused, smiled and said "That is mine."
God handed the suitcase over to him. He opened it with trembling hands. It was empty.
